Week of Oct. 8th

We will be keeping our same Star of the Week and Room Captain for next week since we have back-to-back short weeks. We FINALLY got our tarantula in our room and we will be voting on pet names when the kids come back on Monday. We read 'Open Wide, Don't Bite' which is the last story from our first reading unit. Overall, the kids did a great job on their unit 1 Reading test. In our Book Clubs, the club reading 'Chocolate Fever' finished their book and has begun reading 'Charlotte's Web'. It looks like there are several other groups getting close to finishing their fist chapter book as well (Holes, Maniac Magee, Holes, Fudge-A-Mania). Also with reading, our class had a GREAT turnout for the annual Read-and-Feed! I enjoyed meeting those of you who came and once again, thank you very much for the books that were donated to our classroom- I greatly appreciate it :) In math, we began our third chapter which involves strategies for doing math mentally, and learning about the different properties and rules for addition and subtraction. I can tell the kids are eager to move on to new things in math! In Science we learned about the different characteristics that scientists look at when classifying organisms and in Social Studies we continued coloring our school maps that were started last week. Our current read aloud book, 'Turnabout' is almost finished and we will be doing a related writing project when we finish next week.

As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me any time! I look forward to seeing all of you again next week for conferences :)

-Mr. Tucker
